Miami short film festival to screen titles from Iran

The 16th edition of the Miami short Film Festival in the US has scheduled to screen a lineup of nine Iranian titles.

‘Birthday Night’ directed by Omid Shams, ‘Not Yet’ directed by Arian Vazirdaftari, ‘Numbness’ directed by Milad Jarmouz, and ‘Red Season’ directed by Hassan Najmabadi are in the lineup  to be screened in November.

The list of Iranian films goes on with ‘The Man Who Wasn’t Here’ directed by Ata Mojabi, ‘Windows’ directed by Mina Valizadeh and ‘Khayyam Khooni’ directed by Ali Nikfar.

‘Retouch’ directed by Kaveh Mazaheri and ‘The Servant’ directed by Farnoush Abedi are among the most hopeful and globally-appreciated titles to represent Iran at the US event.

‘Retouch’ has already won the Crystal Simorgh for Best Short Film at the 35th edition of the Fajr Film Festival as well as the best short title from Iran Cinema Celebration.

Produced by the Iranian Young Cinema Society, Mazaheri’s short film is about a young woman whose husband dies before her eyes and she just observes the tragic scene.

'The Servant' narrates the familiar story of a master and his servant, the story of a writer’s encounter with a gigantic insect, a cockroach.

The cockroach becomes a servant but gradually begins to realize that it deserves better conditions, so it tries to turn the table and change the game in its own favor.

The man, however, attempts to preserve the current situation but soon realizes that the game has no rules.

‘The Servant’ previously won the Best Animation award at the 33rd Tehran International Short Film Festival in Tehran and the Best Short Film title at the 13th edition of Fantaspoa - International Fantastic Film Festival in Brazil.

The Iranian animation has also won an award at the 14th London Independent Film Festival in the UK and the best animation award of the 2017 edition of the Silver Scream Fest in California, the US.

It won Best Short Animation award at Querétaro International Film Festival in Mexico recently.

The Miami short film festival is dedicated to promoting the short film genre, showcasing films from 1-30 minutes long.

Slated to run on November 6-11, 2017, the festival is international in scope, bringing exposure to the world’s best independent up-and-coming filmmakers.
